We Purple Earth
New for the 2019/2020 birthday season, One In An ARMY is proud to present #WePurpleEarth; a special BTS birthday project for a better tomorrow on our planet earth. Along with our regular birthday campaigns, each member’s birthday will be accompanied by a 48-hour flash donation period benefiting One Tree Planted. One Tree Planted is a non-profit plants trees around the world. Every dollar raised pays to plant one tree. Each time our tree meter hits 50 trees, a special gift will be revealed that you can use for part two of the project.
Update #2: During Namjoon's 48-hour donation window, more than 674 ARMY joined us to plant 8260 trees! With just two birthday projects, BTS ARMY has become the top fundraiser for One Tree Planted! Voted by ARMY, Namjoon's trees will be joining Jungkook's in Peru to help regrow the Amazon rainforest.
The fundraiser will stay open until after Yoongi's birthday in March 2020, but our next flash donation period will open at midnight KST on December 3rd (24 hours before Seokjin's birthday).
Part two is an ongoing challenge to make our everyday lives more eco friendly. Every time you recycle, plant something, clean up trash, reduce your consumption (of water, electricity, meat, etc) or do another environmentally friendly activity you can fill out our form. The form responses will be used to populate our map. The map will be updated frequently over the Bangtan birthday season, so please feel free to fill out the form as many times as you’d like!
To keep you company as you complete your tasks, we worked with fan artists who created a series of BTS Earth templates for you to print out (preferably all on one sheet of recycled paper) and colour. Take a photo of your eco-conscious actions with your BTS Earth characters and post them online with #WePurpleEarth. You can also use our Twibbon to spread the project.
If you’re interested in organizing a clean up, here are some important tips:
Make sure you have permission to clean the area from the town/property owner
Bring enough bags/bins that you can sort the recyclable materials and dispose of them properly
Know the disposal rules for your region so you can dispose of products like batteries and paint cans properly
Wear thick gloves
Bring tweezers or pliers for broken glass
Bring disinfectant to clean your equipment
Don’t try to dispose of drug paraphernalia like needles (look up the appropriate disposal services in your area and follow their procedure)
Make sure you work with a team of people and don’t clean anywhere that isn’t safe (e.g. side of a busy highway, unsupervised/out of the way park or beach, etc.)
Wear a hat and sunscreen
Bring plenty of water and snacks
While we highly encourage individual action to reduce your ecological footprint, it can only help to an extent. So, what can we as individuals do to stop the source of the problem? Read our backgrounder to learn more about environmental advocacy.
