We Purple Earth

New for the 2019/2020 birthday season, One In An ARMY ran #WePurpleEarth; a special BTS birthday project for a better tomorrow on our planet earth. Along with our regular birthday campaigns, each member’s birthday was accompanied by a 48-hour flash donation period benefiting One Tree Planted. One Tree Planted is a non-profit that plants trees around the world. Every dollar raised pays to plant one tree.

The birthday flash donations have now ended. After just two flash donation periods, the BTS ARMY team became one of the top ranked teams. the  In total, the BTS ARMY team raised enough to plant 33,000 trees! The trees will be planted in Peru (to help regrow the Amazon rainforest), Indonesia, Canada and USA (in the Pacific Northwest to help the Endangered Southern Resident Orca), Australia, and Ghana. Our team fundraising page will remain open for more donations with the understanding that One Tree Planted will decide where to plant any subsequent donations. There's already been a surge of post-birthday donations on Earth Day 2020!

Part two is an ongoing challenge to make our everyday lives more eco friendly. Every time you recycle, plant something, clean up trash, reduce your consumption (of water, electricity, meat, etc) or do another environmentally friendly activity you can fill out our form. The form responses will be used to populate our map. Even though the Bangtan birthday season is over, the map will continue to be updated, so please feel free to fill out the form as many times as you’d like! We also encourage you to post your challenge actions online using the tag #WePurpleEarth. You can also use our Twibbon to spread the project.

Clean Ups

If you’re interested in organizing a clean up, here are some important tips:

  • Make sure you have permission to clean the area from the town/property owner

  • Bring enough bags/bins that you can sort the recyclable materials and dispose of them properly

  • Know the disposal rules for your region so you can dispose of products like batteries and paint cans properly

  • Wear thick gloves

  • Bring tweezers or pliers for broken glass

  • Bring disinfectant to clean your equipment

  • Don’t try to dispose of drug paraphernalia like needles (look up the appropriate disposal services in your area and follow their procedure)

  • Make sure you work with a team of people and don’t clean anywhere that isn’t safe (e.g. side of a busy highway, unsupervised/out of the way park or beach, etc.)

  • Wear a hat and sunscreen

  • Bring plenty of water and snacks

Environmental Advocacy

While we highly encourage individual action to reduce your ecological footprint, it can only help to an extent. So, what can we as individuals do to stop the source of the problem? Read our backgrounder to learn more about environmental advocacy.
