COVID-19 Relief Efforts

In April 2020, One In An ARMY organized a campaign called Our Remedy Is ARMY to support COVID-19 relief efforts. Our usual monthly projects focus on helping a single organization, but for that project we reached out to non-profits we worked with on previous campaigns and found that many of them were (and still are) in dire need of donations. Groups that were already in precarious situations are extremely vulnerable to contracting COVID-19 and are more likely to be hit harder with the economic fallout. Additionally, since One In An ARMY predominantly works with smaller non-profits, these organizations are facing staffing and supply shortages. These organizations play a vital role in keeping people and animals safe and healthy, physically and mentally. It is crucial to keep these organizations operating through the pandemic.

The Our Remedy Is ARMY campaign has officially ended – with 690 ARMY from 44+ countries raising $11,559.10 USD – with a full summary of the campaign available in our archive. However, on June 22 after the news broke that BTS and Big Hit Entertainment donated $1,000,000 USD to Live Nation's Crew Nation campaign (which aims to support touring and venue crews put out of work by COVID-19) we were asked to consider a second #MatchAMillion challenge like the one ARMY created to fund raise for Black Lives Matter.

One In An ARMY typically doesn't organize campaigns in response to crisis situations (see #18, #20, and #21 in our FAQ for our reasoning) but in some cases we have created crisis threads. Our previous crisis threads are stored on our Bonus Missions page and our new crisis threads are housed in our Crisis Carrd Directory. When ARMY requested we pull together resources that supported Black Lives Matter, we created a carrd ( published on June 1) that allowed ARMY to donate to the organizations that meet our own internal guidelines. When news of BTS and Big Hit Entertainment's $1,000,000 USD donation to Black Lives Matter was published on June 6, we simply shared our existing carrd to facilitate donations.

In light of BTS' Crew Nation donation and requests from ARMY, we've revamped our April 2020 campaign page (with the addition of Global Food Banking Network, the beneficiary of our current campaign) to facilitate ARMY donations to non-profits impacted by COVID-19. We ask that ARMY donate only if they're able, as we realize that many ARMY are also impacted physically and/or financially by COVID-19. Please make sure you're taking care of yourselves during this crisis. You can also read the summary of our previous campaigns with those organizations in our archive. The list of non-profits we're highlighting (and the original date we worked with them) are:

*After BTS appeared on The Late Late Show's special broadcast of Home Fest, there was interest from ARMY to donate to the two fundraisers promoted on the show: the CDC Foundation and Feed The Children. We encouraged donations to those two organizations but didn't officially collaborate on a fundraiser with them. Instructions on how to donate to those organizations are listed below.

How to donate

Step 1: Visit the donation page for the non-profit of choice. If paying by PayPal or if the page provides a notes or dedication field, please make sure you write BTS ARMY - this is how the organization will track ARMY donations. Please ensure your donation meets their minimum amount. If you donate less than the minimum it means the organization would be losing money in fees to process your donation. Find the donation pages below:
-
Playing For Change Foundation (for PayPal donations, email to iceeslab @ gmail . com and add BTS ARMY to the notes)
-
100cameras (PayPal link - add BTS ARMY to the notes)
-
Global Food Bank Network (PayPal link - add BTS ARMY to the notes)

Step 2: Donate the minimum amount (or more). This is extremely important! If you donate less than the minimum it means the organization would be losing money in fees to process your donation! The minimum amount for each non-profit is:
-
Medical Teams International - $2.00 USD
-
Thirst Relief - $1.00 USD ($5.00 USD recommended)
-
Korean Kids and Orphanage Outreach Mission - $1.00 USD ($5.00 USD recommended)
-
MindLeaps - $1.00 USD
-
Cuatro Por Venezuela - $1.00 USD
-
Purple Community Fund - $3.00 USD
-
Children's Healing Art Project - 10.00 USD
-
Playing For Change Foundation - $1.00 USD
-
100cameras - $1.00 USD
-
CDC Foundation - $1.00 USD
-
Feed the Children - $10.00 USD
-
Global Food Bank Network - $1.00 USD

Step 3: Take a screenshot of your donation and watermark with your twitter @. Please make sure donation amount is VISIBLE but strike out any personal information (see example screenshot below)

Step 4: Submit this form. The form is especially important this month as many of these non-profits are overwhelmed and might not be able to track donations for us like they normally do.

Step 5: Quote-tweet our thread or write your own tweet about the project. Make sure you check out the Bonus Missions page which has way you can make a difference without donating like completing activities on Freerice!

Our Impact

If you are interested in learning more about the organizations, you can find links to their websites below. Each organization has also given us a rough summary of what our donations will be funding during the COVID-19 pandemic.

-
Medical Teams International: Preventing the spread of COVID-19 and supporting local health systems in responding to it by promoting good hygiene, shipping personal protective equipment (PPE) to hospitals and repurposing their Mobile Dental Vans in the US to serve as drive-thru screening sites.
-
Thirst Relief: To provide a safe way to wash their hands and help stop the spread of sickness in the homes of 120 at risk children that attend a school in Kampala, Uganda. They have no clean water at home, so they can't wash their hands and maintain hygiene, which is extremely important in the current situation.
-
Korean Kids and Orphanage Outreach Mission: The funds will help them maintain the basic necessities of the children in their care. They have been placed on mandatory quarantine by the government for the last 7 weeks, and KKOOM is concerned about the emotional well-being of the children (ranging from 1 1/2 to 19 years old).
-
MindLeaps: Due to the pandemic, dance classes have been put on hold. MindLeaps continues to provide life-saving stipends to their refugee dance teachers. In addition, they are coming up with a plan to continue to provide daily meals to their students at the Rwanda Center which, for many of them, is the only meal they receive daily.
-
Cuatro Por Venezuela: Help Venezuela to fight this very contagious disease by funding protective supplies for health workers, hand sanitizer, and soap. The health crisis in Venezuela has been ongoing since 2016 and they aren't prepared to deal with COVID-19. The shortage of medicine and medical supplies is devastating. They also lack access to clean water and basic hygiene products.
-
Purple Community Fund: COVID-19 has resulted in a 24/7 lock-down, with many families unable to work and earn money to buy food or medicine. PCF will provide people in the communities they serve with much needed life-saving supplies.
-
Children's Healing Art Project: CHAP staff are assembling CHAP art packs of healing art supplies for sick children with a note of encouragement to drop off at area hospitals and distributed by nurses. They are also working on how-to videos of creative art projects for children to do at home, as well as planning to use video conferencing with their Art Club children to interact and maintain their community.
-
Playing For Change Foundation: Your funds will help PFCF take the necessary measures to care for the population and health professionals in Argentina by purchasing supplies that allow the construction of protective masks and providing hygiene items
-
100cameras: To help the situation in their unique way, 100cameras is creating an online resource to meet youth through remote learning. Inspired by their exceptional curriculum, the activities are specifically written to support children in their individual situations, be it challenges of isolation, or fear and anxiety in the current crisis. The experience will provide a new tool to learn how to express these feelings through photography and feel connected to others while also having fun.
-
CDC Foundation: Your donation to the CDC Foundation is funding medical supplies, increasing lab capacity, deploying emergency staffing to U.S. public health agencies, providing support to vulnerable communities, addressing health communication needs, boosting clinical research to improve health outcomes, building capacity and infrastructure for global response efforts, and much more.
-
Feed the Children: Struggling children and families need your help more than ever during this COVID-19 crisis. Each dollar donated will provide $7 worth of the food and essentials we are working tirelessly to get into the hands of the most vulnerable.
-
Global Food Bank Network: Food banking organizations are seeing an overwhelming increase in demand for food aid. We are providing crucial support and important communication channels for food banks to prepare and respond to this growing need. Our response has included: a COVID-19 response fund that so far has supported relief efforts in 45 countries, technical support to help food banks procure and distribute meals, knowledge sharing to help food banking organizations serve more children and families in crisis by navigating supply chain disruptions and evolving distribution mechanisms, and appeals to governments and businesses to be provide relief to vulnerable populations adversely affected by this crisis.
