One In An ARMY is proud to announce the July 2020 campaign Clowns Without Borders to support Clowns Without Borders! The donation period officially began at 10:00 pm KST on June 30, 2020. Donations will aid Clowns Without Borders create public service announcements for children who witness or experience family abuse in Ecuador.

Everything listed in steps 3-5 under our individual giving instructions is optional, but extremely helpful for us to track donation amounts as we have no other way to see how much ARMY has donated (see our FAQ for a full explanation). Our hashtag for the month is #ClownsWithoutBorders and the Bonus Mission hashtag is #LaughWithARMY. The minimum donation amount $1.00 USD.

How To Donate

Step 1) Visit the custom ARMY donation page.

Step 2) Donate $1.00 USD or more. Please consider also covering the transaction fee for your donation.

Step 3) Take a screenshot of your donation watermark with your twitter @. Please make sure donation amount is VISIBLE but strike out any personal information (see example screenshot below).

Step 4) Submit this form. The form is especially important now. Due to COVID-19 many non-profits are overwhelmed and might not be able to track donations for us like they normally do.

Step 5) Quote-tweet our pinned tweet or write your own tweet about the campaign using #ClownsWithoutBorders. Don't forget to check out our July Bonus Mission #LaughWithARMY!

About Clowns Without Borders

From Clowns Without Borders' website:

"Clowns Without Borders began in 1993, when children in Barcelona raised funds to send a famous clown, Tortell Poltrona, to refugee camps in Croatia. The children in Barcelona got the idea from their refugee penpals, who said, 'We miss laughter.'

Clowns Without Borders exists in fifteen countries (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States). Together, we form Clowns Without Borders International. All CWB chapters share the same vision: to create a world where all people can experience laughter, play, and feel hope, especially in humanitarian crises.

Crisis can be an ambiguous term. The majority of CWB – USA’s tours respond to communities experiencing some form of forced displacement, but we do not discriminate over what kind of crisis, or which form of suffering, deserves more attention.

CWB – USA responds to the unique psychosocial needs of each community, and designs flexible, culturally appropriate tours in close collaboration with our local partner organizations. Our goal is to build resilience by sharing laughter and joy.

We are neither doctors, psychologists, nor social workers. Rather, CWB – USA values the wisdom of our local partners and the communities we serve, and coordinates with relief organizations to address the psychosocial needs of people experiencing crisis.

Sometimes clown artists are not appropriate for a particular setting or crisis. That’s why we rely on partner organizations and individuals to invite us. When a trusted local organization contacts us, we do our best to respond promptly and energetically.

CWB – USA works anywhere from urban centers to rural communities that can be reached only by boat. During a project in Colombia, we drove up treacherous mountains to a remote community of coffee farmers displaced by war. One child saw our show and said, 'You are the clowns that came to us!'

Our professional performers volunteer their time on every tour. It’s difficult to quantify just how much our artists donate, but based on a modest estimate, it comes to approximately $180,000 year. This includes time spent in performances and workshops, not travel time.

CWB – USA frequently goes where the road does not, creating performances without a traditional stage or even electricity. It’s our privilege to share resilience through laughter with people around the world."
